Welcome! I’m so glad you’ve found your way to New Roads Psychology. My name is Christine Carcoux, and I’m a registered psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with individuals who are navigating the complex and often overwhelming challenges of chronic pain, chronic illness, and anxiety. Whether you’re struggling with the physical and emotional toll of persistent pain, the unpredictable nature of chronic illness, or the weight of constant worry, I want you to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. I’m here to help you find your way forward.

The Journey You’re On

Living with chronic pain, illness, or anxiety is not just about the physical symptoms you may experience—it’s about the ripple effect these conditions have on every aspect of your life. It’s the exhaustion of waking up every day not knowing how you’ll feel, the frustration of not being able to do the things you used to enjoy, and the sense of isolation that often accompanies an invisible condition. It’s the mental and emotional burden of trying to manage not only the physical discomfort but also the worry, the stress, and sometimes even the shame of not feeling understood.

You might feel like you're constantly fighting your body, your mind, or both. You might worry that others don’t truly understand what you’re going through or that your symptoms are invisible to those around you, leaving you feeling disconnected. These experiences can contribute to a sense of helplessness or hopelessness. But I want to reassure you that healing and relief are possible and achievable. You can work towards a sense of peace, control, and acceptance, no matter what your body or mind may be telling you right now.

The Power of Therapy

Therapy is an invaluable resource in managing chronic pain, chronic illness, and anxiety. I take a holistic approach to therapy, recognizing that each person’s experience is unique and complex. Working with me means approaching your struggles from a place of understanding, empathy, and trust. Together, we will explore not just the psychological or emotional components, but also the physical and relational aspects that may be impacting your overall well-being.

Whether you’re dealing with the physical limitations of chronic illness, the unpredictable flare-ups of pain, or the overwhelming nature of anxiety, therapy can offer practical strategies and emotional support to help you regain a sense of control and move towards healing.

In our work together, you will gain a better understanding of how your mind and body are interconnected. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based strategies, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), all of which are effective in helping individuals manage chronic conditions and anxiety. These techniques can help you shift negative thought patterns to more functional ways of thinking, develop healthier coping strategies, and build strength and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

I’ll work with you to find relief from stress and anxiety, to manage your pain in a way that doesn’t control you, and to create a plan for a more fulfilling life despite your limitations. The goal is not just to alleviate your symptoms but to empower you to live a life that feels meaningful, rewarding, and fulfilling - even within the boundaries that chronic conditions or high levels of anxiety may impose.

Why I Do What I Do

My work as a psychologist is not just a profession—it’s a passion. I’ve spent over 20 years working in various community, healthcare, and private practice settings, and in that time, I’ve had the privilege of working with a variety of clients from all walks of life. My experience has given me a strong understanding of the complexities and nuances of chronic conditions, and I bring that knowledge into every session.

Over the years, I’ve seen how transformative it can be for someone to feel truly seen, understood, and supported. I’ve witnessed firsthand how therapy can help individuals shift from a place of helplessness to a place of hope and empowerment. My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your feelings, your pain, and your fears—and work toward solutions that bring you a sense of calm and peace.

A Little About Me Beyond the Therapy Room

While my work as a psychologist is a big part of my life, outside of the therapy room, I have my own interests, passions, and a love for living life to its fullest. I believe that having a balanced, healthy life outside of therapy is crucial, and I love to sharing that with others.

I love spending time with my husband, my two amazing teenagers, and my fun and supportive circle of friends. I’m also the proud owner of a fun and quirky border collie who loves cuddles, playing fetch and who is overly attached to her ball.

When I’m not in the office, you’ll likely find me out and about. I love to paddle and try to find lakes to enjoy as much as possible. I also love taking hip-hop dance classes and play pickleball as fun ways to stay active and challenge myself in new ways. I also consider myself a bit of a foodie, so I am often on the hunt for the next best dish or a cool, fresh new restaurant.

I believe that living a fulfilling life is about balance—making time for both the work we do and the things that bring us joy. I encourage my clients to do the same, reminding them that self-care is not a luxury but rather an integral part of navigating chronic pain, illness, and anxiety.
